Spokane is a diverse community made up of Caucasians, Asians, African Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and some others including Germans, English, and Norwegians. (The Russians and other eastern Europeans make up around 4% of the whites.) Come on downtown and let everyone stare at you for a change.  J

This is another one of those cities that has a monthly Friday Art Walk. Great for tourists. Many of the locals may never know about the Walk. But, such is life too close to any city. The Garland District is a shopping area of note. For sports enthusiasts, the last week in June brings Hoopfest.

Spokane was the site of the 1974 World's Fair, held on land renovated from a railroad yard. Local residents still enjoy the 100-acre park.
